SONGWRITER

Philip M. Cohen began writing before ever learning to play guitar.  Inspired by the great songwriters who burst on the music scene in the 1960's, such as Bob Dylan, John Lennon, Paul McCartney, Paul Simon, and others, lyrics that first encapsulated and then went beyond "boy meets girl" flowed easily.

Expanding beyond the drums and picking up a guitar, notebooks full of ideas transformed into full-bodied songs.  Phil supplied key songs for all the bands he has been a part of, as well as co-writing tunes with bandmates, including Missy Connell and Greig McRitchie.  From hard-driving rockers like "When Push Comes to Shove,"  the opening tune for the Heaters set for years, to yearning ballads like "Someone Else's Dream," first recorded by Dogs and Bones in both electric and acoustic versions, Phil's songs span a wide range and reflect the variety of human emotion.
